Dear Bridgeway Academy Parents and Caregivers,

Thank you all for your patience, flexibility and understanding in this difficult and unprecedented time of crisis for our country and community. Our responsibility to our Bridgeway family right now is twofold: help support our students, clients and families through the next weeks; and take adequate action and precaution to ensure the health and safety of our staff, students, families and our community at large.

Our Leadership Team has been working tirelessly since the announcement was made to close schools on Thursday, to determine how we can meet our goals of supporting our students and families through virtual educational services – and if possible – in person therapy services. We recognize this is a lot of information, and there are a lot of moving parts. Please read through all of this carefully and attend to the links at the bottom to learn the basics of some of the online tools.

Below you will find our plans for the next three-week period, and details about service delivery models for education and therapy services. Please note, we will still be acknowledging the spring break week, but many teachers and therapists will provide resources for home use during this time.

Please be aware that all of the plans are subject to change as the situation in our nation changes, and as we receive mandates from our national, state and local leadership.

EDUCATION CENTER SERVICE DELIVERY

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, we will be providing services to our Education Center students, grades preschool through 12, in a variety of ways:

  • Indirect Service
    • This can include calling and consulting with parents and caregivers, creating and sending materials, resources, etc.
    • Classroom teachers and teams will provide opportunities for families to pick up home instruction resources, visual aides and tools, or have them mailed to their home
  • Direct/Virtual Service
    • Direct service will be provided via a variety of online platforms that would Bridgeway Academy is utilizing.
    • Audio-Visual Lessons will be provided via Google Hangouts Meet, YouTube Live, and Class Dojo videos and links.
    • Classroom teachers will provide opportunities to connect with students and families, and potentially other classmates, via video chat through the Google Hangouts Meet platform, or phone/conference calls.

THERAPY CENTER SERVICE DELIVERY

  • Indirect Service
    • This can include calling parents, creating and sending materials, resources, etc.

SUPPORT SERVICES AVAILABLE

Support from our Psychology Team, Family Partnership Consultants, Program Directors and Managers will be available. Program Directors or Managers for your child’s classroom will be checking in with parents and students each week. Please reach out to these support people directly, or to your Lead Teacher, if you have questions or concerns or feel your child is in crisis.

WHAT WE NEED FROM PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS

  1. Set reasonable expectations: We know that it may be extremely difficult for you to meet the complex needs of your child while you are at home, some of you still trying to work remotely yourselves. Please, give yourself some grace. Allow our teachers and therapists to reach out and talk with (and even your child) and support you. Our staff will provide as much guidance as they can to make the best of this situation.
  2. Help us document: Our teachers will be working to document all of the interactions and lessons so that the work is recognized by the Ohio Department of Education. If you can maintain the documentation on the homework form, this will help us as well.
  3. Let us know how we can help: Our business office will remain open from 8-3. If your teacher creates a packet of Home Instruction materials, please call our office to set up a time to pick it up. Our business office will BRING IT TO YOUR CAR! This way, we will limit the amount of individuals in our building at a time. Beginning next week, our business office may be limited to ONE BUILDING, so please call ahead and confirm. If you cannot make it to pick up materials, or it would cause a great hardship for you or your child (we know that being at the building and not being able to come in may be a challenge), we can MAIL the work to your home.
  4. If you have internet access: please make sure that your child’s teachers and therapists have an appropriate email address to communicate with you and your child during this time.

Again, please be aware that all of the plans are subject to change as the situation in our nation changes, and as we receive mandates from our national, state and local leadership.

We are so grateful for your partnership and support through this challenging crisis.

Sincerely,

Erin and Abby

P.S. Our team has created some How-To Videos to help you understand some of the digital platforms that your child’s teachers and therapists may be using.
